Protein shakes are a perfect way to have a quick, protein-rich meal or snack. The problem, though, is that they aren't always the most filling things in the world. Or you may just want a different flavor.
So, what can you do? Instead of the standard “just add water” protein shake, get a little more creative. Fruit, yogurt and other little add-ons can improve not just the flavor of your protein shake but also the nutrition.
Here's a recipe, for example, for a delicious blueberry banana protein shake that is loaded with quality carbohydrates, fiber and tons of micronutrients. But that's enough talk, let's get to the recipe.
- 1 cup of frozen blueberries
- 1 frozen banana
- 1/2 cup milk (of choice)
- 1 scoop protein powder
- 3/4 cup plain yogurt
- Ice (as needed)
Place each ingredient in your blender and blend until everything is thoroughly combined. The amount of ice you use will depend on your desired texture.
The frozen berries and bananas will do double-duty and cut down on how much ice you need. If you use fresh fruit, though, you'll need more ice.
